Handmade Lampshade Size Guide

Size Guide

Lampshade size and shape is very much a personal choice.

We know that deciding on the right size of lampshade can be quite confusing, therefore the below simple guide should hopefully assist you with choosing the right lampshade.

Start by measuring your lamp base - measure the height from the bottom of the lamp base to the bottom of the bulb fitting; then measure the width of the widest part of the lamp base.
To determine the height of the lampshade - for table lamps, the height of the

lampshade should be about 60-70% of the height of the lamp base. For example, if your lamp base is 50 cm tall, look for a shade that is 30-35 cm in height. For floor lamps, the height of the shade should be 30-40% of the total height of the lamp. For example, if your floor lamp is 150 cm tall, look for a shade that is 45-60 cm in height.

To determine the width of the lampshade use the base width rule - the width of the lampshade should be about twice the width of the widest part of the lamp base. For example, if your lamp base is 20 cm wide, look for a shade that is about 40 cm wide.

Once you have worked out the size of the lampshade, there are also some shape and style decisions to consider. The shape of the lampshade should complement the lamp base. For example, a round base looks great with a round lampshade, and a square base pairs well with a square or rectangular lampshade. Slim bases can be matched with slender lampshades, while wider bases pair nicely with broader lampshades.

Essentially, if you love the lampshade on your lamp, then it's the right choice for you!
